The Job...

You will be the #2 engineer behind a very fast-growing brand, working with our lead developer.  Our growing codebase has been carefully built with attention to readability and scalability (we think you'll be pleased with it).  We value well-designed code and getting things done right, but most importantly, getting them done.  We take both technical debt and deadlines seriously.

You’ll need to be able to insert yourself anywhere needed: frontend, backend, everything in between. You won’t have to deal with a lot of bureaucracy and approvals to get product decisions made. You’ll be sharing an office space with the CEO.

We are investing in new digital experiences all the time, and expanding our offerings within the world of literature. You will be laying the technical foundation for long-term success of the company, while rapidly launching new features and iterations.

As a full-stack dev, you’ll...

Work directly with our CTO, CEO, and Creative Director on implementing new features, consumer facing updates, as well as backend tools for our supply chain and inventory.  

Build solutions for appropriate scalability. You're ok building something "hacky" if it fits the need, but can also identify real issues and create well designed, elegant solutions to hard problems.

Who You Are...

At this point, on the "specialist" vs "generalist" front, you tend to lean a bit generalist.  You have the flexibility to move around the stack, from frontend templating and stylesheets to backend/sysadmin/databases.

An ideal candidate would be familiar with the following technologies in our stack: Linux systems administration, Ansible, Python, Django, PostgreSQL, React, jsx, ES6, Webpack, scss, Boostrap, jquery, css, html. Mobile app experience is a plus; you might be leading the development of one.

Okay, so maybe you aren’t familiar with everything above, but you’re a fast learner with enough experience to pick up new technologies quickly. You are comfortable communicating with everyone. You can handle not only technical conversations with our lead developer, but can turn right around and answer a legal question, jam on a new feature with our CEO, launch a last minute update for the marketing team, or sit down with a warehouse worker and talk about ways to make their life a little easier. You are up for a challenge. You derive joy from hard, but meaningful work. You enjoy getting into the flow. You are humble, with a good sense of humor and lot of camaraderie.

Editorial Internship (Full-time or Part-time)

Description:

Literati is the premiere children’s book subscription service in the country.  Our team is small, but it is mighty.  We are a team of writers, artists, teachers, journalists, software engineers and avid readers. We were founded by a Stanford grad who left Google to write novels in the desert.  Our office is off of South Lamar, and like everywhere else in Austin, it is frequently full of dogs and tacos.

The internship would suit any current English, Creative Writing, Performance Art, Screenwriting (or equivalent) student (undergrad or post-grad) who wants experience writing and editing web content. This is an excellent opportunity for a student wanting to gain experience telling stories in a variety of media - video, online, print, and audio.

Ideally, we’d like a full-time Intern, but are flexible.

The internship is also unpaid.  But while we can’t pay you in actual money, we can pay you in opportunity.  We can provide you with experience, we can build your skills, we can show you a truly original business model and a truly compassionate company culture full  of inspiring people.  The opportunities and the gains you could make are really endless here.  And there is always a chance that an unpaid internship will lead to paid employment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Write, edit, and product stories for the Literati blog
  • Address customer service tickets in the Literati style of writing
  • Assist the Editorial Director with tasks and projects as needed

Requirements:

College-level (grad or post-grad) experience in writing, editing, and/or producing content; either in print copy, digital publishing, digital content production, or other creative writing field. BA in English, Creative Writing, Performance Art, Screenwriting, or equivalent experience is highly preferred. 

A passion for learning, for discover, and for generating work, along with an enthusiastic attitude, a willingness to help out, and a strong sense of humor, are highly valuable here.  You will be working with a small team of driven and creative people, who believe deeply in the company’s mission.  We are each personally invested in the company’s success, and in each others’s individual successes.  Being able to work within this kind of culture is crucial.

Literati is seeking a talented and experienced writer to craft and edit content for our digital platforms. The main goal of this role is to generate, nurture and convert leads through informative and engaging content. The ideal candidate will be an expert wordsmith and storyteller that can showcase Literati's value in a compelling way. This person will have experience in online writing and knowledge of content marketing.

Responsibilities

  • Create on-brand content campaigns that align with marketing objectives and company goals
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to develop innovative solutions to creative challenges and develop ways to communicate unique messages
  • Produce, edit and customize content for all our platforms, including our website, blog, editorial articles, email campaigns, Facebook, and more
  • Pitch articles to third-party websites for publication and guest post on partner websites
    Perform online and on-the-ground primary research for blog posts, articles, guides and other content
  • Work with the marketing team to analyze content performance metrics, such as total attention time, click-through rate and social following growth, and apply those insights to improve existing content and develop better content ideas for the future
  • Write and A/B test our web copy, including CTAs, value props and landing pages

Qualifications:

  • Writing Skills:  Impeccable grammar and spelling, and the ability to write persuasively in a brand's voice
  • Experience writing on-brand marketing content
  • Proofreading and editing skills
  • Ability to thrive in a startup environment
  • Proficient in writing for multiple formats; long editorial and short descriptive copy

About Literati

Literati is a consumer company that ultimately will live or die based on the customer experience. You will be the first line of contact with the most important people we ever talk to — our customers. Your job goes way beyond closing out tickets and responding to emails (although you should love coming up with creative responses to customer service queries...). You will be personally be responsible for driving the most important metric that drives our business — customer retention. This will require thinking critically about the feedback given by customers, being data-driven, creative, dedicated, and summarizing and bringing critical information back to the team.

The Job

We have nicknamed this position the CLO "Chief Love Officer," as it will require being extremely creative about ways to spread love amongst our customers. At a minimum, this will involve manning the front lines of the "Jolly Postman" account, and responding to customer questions and needs. This is fun, of course. Making people happy makes us all happy, but we want a customer service experience that anticipates needs, that delights customers unexpectedly at every turn. You might come up with a special birthday gift for a sick child in our clubs. You might commission a Pulitzer Prize winning illustrator to do an original comic for our millionth subscriber. You love spreading love, are a pathological people pleaser,  and are ready to take customer support to an entirely new level than Ben & Jerry could ever dream up.

Literati is seeking a Product Marketing Manager.  You’ll be our go-to Marketing expert, driving the development and execution of Literati’s marketing efforts.. everything from campaign development to tactical planning. You consider yourself a Growth Hacker and have multi-channel experience.   You love the strategy piece, but still dig writing copy.

The position requires a deep understanding of online and offline marketing - social media management, copywriting, content creation, paid marketing strategy, email campaigns, and more.  You’re analytical - you have experience crafting campaigns and then measuring and optimizing them for maximum return.  You have experience developing compelling social media content (Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Quora).   Solid experience with Google Ads.

Essential Functions:

  • Campaign conception, planning, scheduling, coordination, execution and measurement
  • Create,manage, and analyze marketing campaigns and make spend recommendations
  • Develop email marketing strategies that drive, consumer engagement/retention and support brand marketing goals
  • Utilizing the following channels: influencer marketing, affiliate programs, podcast marketing
  • Assists in the management and creation of PPC campaigns including Social Media Advertising and Google Ads

Requirements:

  • BS/BA, preferably in marketing, advertising, or equivalent 
  • 7+ years of digital marketing experience with a track record of driving customer acquisition and revenue growth
  • 3+ years as a people manager
  • Branding/Marketing experiences, preferably DTC (Direct to Consumer) including content development and consumer-acquisition strategy
  • Influencer Marketing experience 
  • Experience with Google Adwords (now Google Ads)
  • Holistic perspective on digital marketing with a strong understanding of how different media channels work together in a campaign

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and roll out our social media strategy 
  • Create engaging content for all channels
  • Create standards and best practices to ensure content is on-brand and on-message
  • Identify and utilize software and management tools 
  • Monitor, track, and analyze program performance and provide recommendations for improvements 
  • Seek out and develop relationships with media, aligned brands, celebrities, and influencers to promote cross-brand engagement  

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, English, Business, Economics, or a related field or relevant experience
  • Experience managing social media campaigns 
  • 5+ years of driving social media management for a brand
  • 2+ years experience copywriting/writing for the web
